Worshiping Other Gods

13 ^[a]If a prophet,^(A) or one who foretells by dreams,^(B) appears among you and announces to you a sign or wonder, ² and if the sign^(C) or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says, “Let us follow other gods”^(D) (gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,” ³ you must not listen to the words of that prophet^(E) or dreamer.^(F) The Lord your God is testing^(G) you to find out whether you love^(H) him with all your heart and with all your soul. ⁴ It is the Lord your God you must follow,^(I) and him you must revere.^(J) Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast^(K) to him.

¹⁶ All Scripture is God-breathed^(A) and is useful for teaching,^(B) rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,^{(C) 17} so that the servant of God^[a](D) may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.^(E)

4 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead,^(F) and in view of his appearing^(G) and his kingdom, I give you this charge:^{(H) 2} Preach^(I) the word;^(J) be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke^(K) and encourage^(L)—with great patience and careful instruction.

Marriage at the Resurrection^(A)

¹⁸ Then the Sadducees,^(B) who say there is no resurrection,^(C) came to him with a question. ¹⁹ “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.^{(D) 20} Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died without leaving any children. ²¹ The second one married the widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was the same with the third. ²² In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died too. ²³ At the resurrection^[a] whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”

²⁴ Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures^(E) or the power of God? ²⁵ When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.^{(F) 26} Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’^[b]?^{(G) 27} He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!”

²⁰ But you have an anointing^(A) from the Holy One,^(B) and all of you know the truth.^[a](C)

²⁷ As for you, the anointing^(A) you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things^(B) and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.^(C)

⁹ However, as it is written:

¹⁰ these are the things God has revealed^(B) to us by his Spirit.^(C)

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. ¹¹ For who knows a person’s thoughts^(D) except their own spirit^(E) within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. ¹² What we have received is not the spirit^(F) of the world,^(G) but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. ¹³ This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom^(H) but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.^{[b] 14} The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God^(I) but considers them foolishness,^(J) and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. ¹⁵ The person with the Spirit^(K) makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, ¹⁶ for,

But we have the mind of Christ.^(M)

The Weak and the Strong

14 Accept the one whose faith is weak,^(A) without quarreling over disputable matters. ² One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables.^(B)

⁴ Not at all! Let God be true,^(A) and every human being a liar.^(B) As it is written:

¹³ But when he, the Spirit of truth,^(A) comes, he will guide you into all the truth.^(B) He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
